About Me
If you know me personally, I’ll probably just skip this page. Otherwise you’ll find some more or less useful information on this website’s owner… Enjoy!
Who or what is SLURM23?
SLURM23 is of course an internet pseudonym – one that has stayed with me since time immemorial (or what seems like it in the internet). Together with the “brain slug logo” they form an internet persona, which is my way of guarding some semblance of privacy online. Initially this persona was chosen almost at random, but has acquired many layers of obvious and hidden meanings over the years.
Naturally, the most straight forward meaning is the literal one. The first part of the term is derived from a little known character in a somewhat known TV show. The second part is contrary to common beliefs devoid of any numerological meaning, yet it serves as a powerful demonstration of cognitive phenomena, such as confirmation bias (apophenia). Or could it even be a mysterious predicting force of events to come? I’ll leave that up to you…
Some Related Media
Here you can find some media content from different sources, related to brain slugs, robot hell and the like…
On Brain Slugs…
Brain slugs are an parasitic, invertebrate species native to remote regions. Brain slugs feed on “cognitive energy” in the form of Alpha and Delta brainwaves. Usually they attach themselves to their victims by using their adhesive slime to the scalp. The host’s personality traits can become suppressed to a certain degree and their bodily functions are controlled by the slug. Brain slugs have a single, rudimentary eye that can only see the heat signatures of their prey, but they gain some use of their host’s senses when they begin feeding.
The only requirement for compatibility with hosts is the presence of cognitive activity, which fortunately makes a large proportion of mankind immune to brain slugs. The slugs will attack their hosts by crawling up their bodies until they reach the cranium. The only sure way to prevent infestation is to wear a helmet when in close proximity to an infested individual or their natural habitat.
Why Robot Hell?
Robot hell is as much a concept, as it is an actual place. Not only is it where everybody is supplied with all the delicious pain they deserve, but the kind of torture is of their own choosing. What better metaphor for life in a modern society? If only as a reminder that we are always our own worst enemies, this is where my internet persona is from.
For me personally, it is full of multifaceted connotations… But for more information on its religious and symbolic dimensions, you’ll have to look elsewhere.
